When fixer-for-hire Leah Chamonix is sent to reboot a failing Christmas festival in Cornish harbour town Havenbrook, she clashes with grumpy rink keeper Jax Mitchell, guardian of a fragile ice rink and a painful legend. As they rewrite the Silver Dancer story together, sparks fly, and the town’s future hangs in the balance.
Two hearts, one rink, and a legend that could change everything
Event planner Sophie Chamonix has orchestrated spectacles across Europe, but recreating Havenbrook's legendary "Frozen Harbour Festival" presents her most ambitious challenge yet. According to local lore, when the harbour froze solid in 1847, the townspeople celebrated with three nights of skating beneath the Northern Lights, and a mysterious figure in silver performed a dance that supposedly saved the town from a terrible fate. Now, Sophie's been hired to resurrect this lost tradition as a Winter Wonderland experience, complete with period costumes, authentic Victorian skating performances, and a climactic recreation of the legendary silver dancer's routine.
Jax Mitchell has been running Havenbrook Ice Rink for fifteen years, maintaining the aging facility with stubborn pride and treating every scuff on his ice like a personal insult. His family has owned the rink for generations, and he's heard every version of the Frozen Harbor tale—including the parts the tourism board prefers to forget. When Sophie arrives with her grand plans to transform his practical rink into a theatrical wonderland based on what he knows is mostly fiction, he's determined to protect both his ice and the truth.
Their first meeting ends with Sophie's historical research scattered across Jax's office and his blunt declaration that she's "romanticizing a tragedy." But with the entire town banking on the Winter Wonderland to revive tourism after a disastrous year, they're forced into an uneasy partnership. Sophie needs Jax's technical expertise and grudging cooperation; Jax needs Sophie's event to succeed even if he thinks it's built on lies.
Through late-night rehearsals where Jax teaches Sophie the difference between theatrical skating and actual Victorian ice dancing, emergency repairs when old pipes threaten to flood the entire production, and the discovery of his grandmother's diary that reveals the real story behind the silver dancer, their icy standoff begins to thaw. Sophie starts to see that Jax's resistance comes from respecting history, not rejecting progress. Jax realizes Sophie's determination to create magic isn't about false narratives—it's about giving people something to believe in.
As opening night approaches and they uncover a connection between the 1847 festival and Jax's own family history, they must decide whether to reveal the truth that could shatter the town's cherished myth or create a new legend worth believing in—one that includes them.
A sparkling enemies-to-lovers romance about the stories we tell, the truths we keep, and finding that sometimes the best traditions are the ones you create together.

FAQs

This instalment makes Havenbrook feel more three-dimensional than ever: from the arrivals hut to the arts centre plaza, every corner shows winter in a coastal town. The Frozen Harbour Festival structure gives the book a clear spine, while the romance threads through rehearsals, crises, and quiet planning for “next year.” A standout seasonal read for fans of small-town series. —Georgia F., early reader
At its core, this is a book about letting go—of old narratives, outdated guilt, and the need to control every variable. Leah lets go of constant motion; Jax lets go of solitary responsibility; the town lets go of a polished but incomplete legend. The Christmas backdrop keeps everything wrapped in warmth, even through tough conversations. A reflective yet comforting holiday romance. —Tariq S., early reader
For readers new to Audrey Stone, this provides an excellent entry point into the Havenbrook world. It showcases her strengths: sharp dialogue, flawed but loveable leads, and a town that feels lived in. The Christmas setting enhances but doesn’t overwhelm the story, making it readable any winter. A great pick for those seeking a contemporary UK-set festive romance with substance. —Megan H., beta reader
The closing image of the harbour “lit up anyway” captures the entire mood: truthful, slightly battered, but determined to shine. No neat bow is tied on every problem, yet hope feels genuine. Leah and Jax step into the future as partners in both work and love. Readers looking for a healing, gently triumphant Christmas romance will finish with warm shoulders and a steady heart. —Lucas D., editorial reviewer
By the end, the book argues that tradition only truly matters if it can hold real truth. The final chapters bring together diary entries, rink kids, and a festival reimagined with honesty at its core, while still keeping the central love story front and centre. The closing kiss scenes feel like promises to keep trying, not guarantees of perfection. —Ella J., early reader
